The Feldenkrais Method is a system designed to promote bodily and mental well-being by conscious analysis of neuromuscular activity via exercises that improve flexibility and coordination and increase ease and range of motion.
Whether you’d like to kick your heels up over your head or just get up and down more easily from the floor, improving the functioning of your hip joints is key to achieving your goals. But too often we try to achieve goals through sheer will power, pushing through pain and creating new tensions in the body that can lead to unnecessary stress and new injuries.
What if there was a way to find easier movement in your joints through gentle and novel movement explorations where no one “correct” way of doing things was being imposed on you? Awareness Through Movement is just such a process, a kind of guided self-exploration that will allow you to uncover self-defeating habitual patterns of movement and thinking and renew your possibilities. As Moshe Feldenkrais famously said, “When you know what you’re doing, you can do what you want!” The Feldenkrais Method can be a tool to unlock your creative potential.
Most of the movement lessons are done lying on the floor, although movements may also be done in sitting, standing or walking. No gym gear is necessary, but please dress comfortably and bring a mat or pad that will allow you rest comfortably on the ground.
