Welcome to our new blog. There is always so much in the works at Dance Loft, we are starting a blog to keep you updated on what is happening behind the scenes! Upcoming events, current happenings, who's who, and more. We'll try to update once or twice a week. Visit regularly for the latest news!
So, It's only the second week of May and we already have a TON of awesome developments to share. Here are a few that you'll want to track.
1. Mark your calendars for the First DC Dance Summit! First, Dance Loft Founder Diana Movius (that's me) just received an $8500 grant from the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities to organize the first-ever DC Dance Summit September 15-17, 2017! The Summit will feature professional development panels from the area's wisest dance leaders, a marketplace of dancers/directors/technicians/designers/employers, masterclasses, site-specific works, and opportunities to engage and discuss the tough issues we face such as funding, diversity, and inclusion. I'm excited to develop this weekend and will be working with Carla Perlo of Dance Place, Steve Barberio of Joy of Motion, Denise Saunders of International Association of Blacks, Stephen Clapp of DanceMetro DC, Vladimir Angelov of DanceICONS and many others to make it happen. The Dance Loft on 14 will be the host venue and we can't wait to have the DMV dance community take over the facility!
2. Back-to-Back Wednesday MasterClasses with Erica Rebollar and Bob Boross (thru May 24-just 3 classes left!): Find it tiring to make the rush hour commute to class? With back-to-back classes, you can get more dancing out of that commute. Woohoo! Bob Boross will be leading intermediate Jazz on Wednesdays this May from 6:30-8:00pm, and Erica Rebollar will teach intermediate contemporary from 8:00-9:30. *Please note that out of courtesy to the instructors, we ask that students pre-register online by NOON the day of class. Bob has had numerous students on Broadway and in commercial gigs, and Erica's company has toured internationally! These are perfect for professionals, part-timers and and serious students!
3. Building on the Masterclass bandwagon, regular open class teacher Luis Torres has just 3 classes left before Fall! Luis's impeccable career spans Washington Ballet, LINES Contemporary Ballet, and more! Every class with Luis feels like a masterclass. Due to his insight, I always have breakthroughs, recently on turns and balance. His class will be a full 90 minute, high energy, and tailored experience perfect for focused and hard-working dancers. Check out more about his class Mondays at 7:00pm through May 22.
That's it for this post, but stay tuned for updates on our Choreographic Institute Concert, Request for Proposals for the 2017-18 Performing Season, Summer Intensive Announcement and more!
