Dance Loft on 14 seeks a full-time Communications Manager

Position Summary

The Communications Manager will develop and oversee a broad range of communications and public relations activities to advance the mission, vision and goals of MOVEIUS Contemporary Ballet t/a Dance Loft on 14.

The Communications Manager will work independently and under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, with guidance from the Executive Director. The Communications Manager will be responsible for all promotional related external communications.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Work with Director of Operations to pursue space rental inquiries and close rental deals.

  • Work with Director of Operations to coordinate all front-of-house and studio management coverage during business hours and for after hours events.

  • Develop and manage a team of interns/work-study personnel to help accomplish the organization’s communications, front-of-house and studio management goals.

  • Create and implement a quarterly and annual communications plan that includes all relevant social media platforms and constituent communication channels.

  • Develop appropriate messaging, create and disseminate promotional materials including brochures, postcards, flyers, e-Newsletters, media releases and partnership documentation.

  • Optimize use of constituent data (mailing list open rates, website statistics, etc…) for SEO and to improve effectiveness of communications.

  • Regular assessment and measurement of communications systems.

  • Maintain and update the organization’s website.

  • Assist the Director of Operations and Executive Director with communications and facilities related projects as necessary.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, or other closely related field required; Or, 2+ years of experience in marketing and public relations for an arts non-profit

  • Knowledge of strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and public relations best practices and core principles

  • Demonstrated experience planning, developing, and managing a complex external communications plan

  • Knowledge of local and national dance landscapes

Minimum Qualifications (cont.)

  • Experience leveraging various communications channels to deliver messaging to public audiences

  • Experience cultivating and developing relationships with media contacts and ability to use those contacts to execute strategic priorities

  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems and proactively address communication breakdowns

  • Experience developing talking points, writing articles and speeches, and crafting blogs/social media posts

  • Excellent proficiency in copyediting, proofreading, and common publishing platforms as well as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

  • Able to represent Dance Loft on 14 to the media and other external stakeholders as well as facilitate meetings, conferences, interviews, and other public-facing events

  • Ability to work independently and in partnership with team members, prioritize workload to meet demands, be well organized and proactive, and define courses of action to enable decision making

  • Proven capabilities in making deadlines, generating key deliverables, and program/project management

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment with quick turnaround times while maintaining excellent quality control

  • Ability to create innovative approaches to address organizational communications challenges, and build collaborative internal and external relationships

  • Ability to get up to speed quickly on complex issues, multi-task while maintaining high attention to detail, and be willing and able to roll up sleeves and get work of all types done

  • Comfortable responding to and managing inquiries/topics that are sometimes sensitive in nature with the highest professionalism

  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment

  • Strong proficiency with MS Word and Excel


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

  • Experience leading proposal work and responding to RFPs

  • Experience mentoring, developing, and managing professional staff



  • Salary range: $36,000 - $40,000 commensurate with experience

  • A Health Insurance plan is available. MOVEIUS will contribute 50% of health insurance plan costs.
