DANCE LOFT ADULT CLASSES

Dance Loft’s regular nightly drop-in adult class schedule runs from September 8th through May 30th, with a variety of classes to choose from. We offer enrollment sessions, 10-Class-Passes, and drop-in passes to the class of your choice.

IMPORTANT UPDATES FOR 2026

  • Please try to sign up online 24-hours before your class if you are interested! While we do offer drop-ins, we require a minimum number of people signed up day of in order to run the class. Without this amount, we unfortunately have to cancel the class. We appreciate your understanding on this matter! 

  • Wednesday’s Beginner Contemporary Class with Angel will now start at 6:15 pm, rather than 6 pm. The class end time is still 7:30 pm.

  • Yao’s Lyrical Contemporary Class will not be held on the following dates:

  • Artist-in-residence DMV Adavus curates a vibrant South Asian Cultural Showcase—a rich tapestry of Indian traditions highlighting both their diversity and deep interconnection. Featuring numerous local artists, the evening includes bhangra, Bollywood, bharatanatyam, kathak, Carnatic music, and more.

  • Brandon Marcelas Dozier brings his deep knowledge of hip-hop and urban street styles to this high energy show. Show will feature some of DC’s top urban dancers, and uptempo music that will make you want to get out of your chair and join the movement.

Ballet Classes

NEW! Ballet Fundamentals with Liz (Saturday) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

This class is for those completely new to ballet! The primary focus will be on ballet positions at the barre, port de bras, terminology, correct alignment, and ballet etiquette. Liz will make sure that students have a strong foundation in order to continue safely on their ballet journey. This class will focus less on progression, and more on a solid understanding of ballet fundamentals. 

Beginner Ballet 1 with Ellie (Mon) and Liz (Wed) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

This class is for those who are just beginning their ballet journey. Our teachers will teach you the foundational steps and kinetics of ballet movement. Enrollment is suggested for this class as it builds from previous classes throughout the year, however the option to drop-in is still available! A NEW TERM BEGINS IN JANUARY

Beginner Ballet 2 with Liz (Wed & Sat) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

This class is for those who have the basic knowledge of ballet and would like to continue building their technique. This is a great class for those who have taken ballet previously and would like to return to it, or for those who feel like they have grasped the ballet technique and want to be challenged more. We encourage students to consistently take this class as it builds from previous classes throughout the year. 

Int/Adv Open MOVEIUS Company Class with Alvaro (Tues) or Diana (Sat)

This is an open company class with the Moveius Company dancers. During class, you will emphasize musicality while also working on advanced steps such as turns and jumps. This class is perfect for upper intermediate, advanced, or professional dancers. 

Contemporary & Modern Classes

Beginner Contemporary with Angel (Wed) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

Contemporary is a genre of dance that incorporates aspects of movement from ballet, modern, and jazz styles. This beginner level adult class includes a full technique class including floor work and improvisation. Dancers can enhance their technique, artistry, strength, and coordination. 

Intermediate Contemporary Floorwork with Angel (Sat) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

This Contemporary Floorwork class will incorporate more advanced steps and techniques, placing a higher prominence on floorwork and how to safely achieve these steps. 

Horton Technique with Kevin (Sat) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

Horton is a modern technique that uses a whole-body, anatomical approach to dance. It encourages students to use strength, flexibility, coordination, and spatial awareness. Previous dance experience is encouraged when signing up for this class.

NEW! Lyrical Contemporary with Yao (Fri) - ENROLLMENT NOW OPEN FOR JANUARY

Contemporary as a genre pulls from many different dance styles, such as modern, ballet, and jazz, finding different connections and making something wholly unique to the artform. Lyrical contemporary takes these connections and blends them into a technique that is expressive and fluid, allowing students to move their bodies and feel good in the studio. Enrollment is encouraged as this is a NEW class being offered, however the option to drop-in is still available!

DRESS CODE

We encourage everyone to wear what they feel most comfortable in!

We recommend clothing that is easy to dance in and won’t inhibit movement for whatever class you plan on attending!

What shoes should I wear?

For Ballet Class, you may wear either Ballet Shoes or Socks*

For Contemporary, you may wear Ballet Shoes, Socks, or Bare Feet

For Modern, Bare Feet or Socks

*recommend grip socks for beginners
