As part of the series, Artists also offer a masterclass in conjunction with their performance to offer audiences an up-close look at the creative process. The Dance Loft Presents series reflects Dance Loft’s commitment to supporting emerging voices and making space for new ideas in dance.

Bharathantyam Masterclass: March 28th, 3:30 - 5:30 PM

Artist-in-residence DMV Adavus curates a vibrant South Asian Cultural Showcase—an evening celebrating the rich traditions and evolving artistry of South Asian music and dance.

Featuring local groups including DMV Adavus, Nootana, The Sapan Institute, Vishious Vicinity, and DC Sabha, the program highlights a wide range of styles, from classical forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak, and classical vocal music to energetic folk dances like bhangra and garba, alongside contemporary Bollywood and fusion performances. Together, these artists weave traditional and modern stories through movement and music, illuminating the cultural history and influences that shape South Asian performance today.

Masterclass: Canceled

Brandon Marcelas Dozier brings his deep knowledge of hip-hop and urban street styles to this high energy show. Show will feature some of DC’s top urban dancers, and uptempo music that will make you want to get out of your chair and join the movement.

Artist-in-residence Gabriel Mata presents Primer Impacto, an evening-length dance program. Inspired by their Mexican-American upbringing and the ritual of watching the high impact nightly news on Univision under the same name. The Spanish phrase means “first impact.” The program highlights experiences, people, and cultural influences that have left an indelible mark on Mata's life. Each work presented in this evening embodies a moment of encounter, rupture, memory, or recognition—an impact that continues to resonate through movement, identity, and storytelling.

Compañía Medusa returns to their first home, Washington, DC, with the world premiere of Casita—a reimagined, evening-length version of the work that launched the company in 2016. Casita explores themes of family, love, community, and chosen connection through an intergenerational lens, tracing the bonds we build—through blood, water, memory, and movement.
