Primer Impacto is an evening-length dance program created by Gabriel Mata, inspired by their Mexican-American upbringing and the ritual of watching the high impact nightly news on Univision under the same name. The Spanish phrase means “first impact.” The program highlights experiences, people, and cultural influences that have left an indelible mark on Mata's life. Each work presented in this evening embodies a moment of encounter, rupture, memory, or recognition—an impact that continues to resonate through movement, identity, and storytelling.
