This workshop fuses the grounded rhythms of Latin dance with the bold dramatics of Bollywood. We’ll start with a warm-up and core Latin dance techniques to connect to the music, then layer in Bollywood styling, accents, and expression before bringing it all together into a seamless, high-energy fusion.
All levels are welcome. Just bring comfortable shoes, water, and an open mind! -

Angela teachers her Afro-Cuban Modern dance class from folklore perspective and from modern perspective. The folklore perspective takes you through the history of dance as it traveled out of Africa to the Americas, getting a combination of Cuban, Brazilian, & Haitian Folklore, & what it looks like when you get to Black-American culture. From the modern perspective, she takes from Martha Graham and Lester Horton's techniques. Angela combines all of this into a class that is both technically challenging and artistically invigorating.

Frequently Asked Questions

While we do encourage participants to have a little bit of experience coming into our Summer Intensive sessions, beginners are more than welcome to attend! Each class will have its difficulty listed next to it, with Open Level meaning all are welcome, to Intermediate, which allows students to understand that the class will be more challenging and fast paced. We encourage all students to come and try out any class that they are interested in!

Not sure what to wear? We got you! First, you’ll want to be comfortable and allow your body to have room to move, so try to avoid restrictive clothing with little-to-no stretch. For ballet classes, you may wear a leotard and tights if you’re feeling up to it, or a simple pair of shorts and a tank-top suffice as well. We do encourage our students to wear proper footwear, so ballet shoes are the preferred shoe for Ballet. For contemporary, feel the freedom of the movement and step into whatever makes you comfortable. Socks, Ballet shoes, or bare feet are allowed for this class. For Modern, we primarily teach the Horton technique, which utilizes bare feet and works on clean lines, so we recommend leggings or shorts, and a more form-fitting shirt.

We don’t have our own parking lot, so if you are driving, we recommend street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. We are right next to the D50 & D5X bus stop, and a 15 minute walk from the Petworth Metro stop, so we generally encourage public transportation!
